The JN Tata Endowment for the Higher Education of Indians is a loan scholarship for Indian students to pursue master’s, PhD, and postdoctoral studies abroad. This merit-based scholarship was established in 1892 by Jamsetjee Nusserwanjee Tata and has been awarded to 5,600 students to date. Beneficiaries will get an amount between INR 1 - 10 Lakh at an annual interest of 2%, which needs to be repaid in five equal installments within the third and seventh years.

What are the Eligibility Criteria for the JN Tata Loan Scholarship?

Students can apply for the JN Tata Loan Scholarship at the beginning of their studies or anytime before 12 months of course completion. Below are the primary eligibility criteria an applicant must keep in mind:

    Nationality & Age: Applicants must be Indian citizens and not older than 45 years as of June 30, 2025.

    Academic Qualification: A graduate (bachelor’s or master’s degree) from a recognized Indian university with a minimum average of 60% marks. Degrees obtained from non-recognized institutions in India are not eligible.

    Program Type: Applicants must be admitted to a recognized postgraduate-level program abroad (referred to as a Graduate Program). Undergraduate studies, distance learning, online courses, seminars, workshops, training programs, and paper presentations are not eligible.

    Course Duration: The course must span at least two academic years, with a minimum of one full year (12 months) of study remaining at the time of the award (typically July each year).
