    The department requires a bachelor's degree in English or Comparative Literature from an accredited school. The applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA in upper-division major courses, with a minimum of 24 units of upper-division coursework. If the applicant has a degree in another subject, they must complete 24 units of upper-division English and/or Comparative Literature courses with at least a 3.0 GPA before starting the master's program. If the GPA in prerequisite courses is below 3.0, the applicant may take more upper-division English and/or Comparative Literature courses and reapply. Some of these courses can count toward the M.A. if completed with a grade of B (3.0) or better. However, courses taken to fix quantitative issues cannot be counted toward the M.A.
