Students must also complete a college preparatory study pattern totaling 15 units, which includes: 2 years of social science (including 1 year of U.S. history), 4 years of English, 3 years of math (algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra; 4 years are recommended), 2 years of laboratory science (1 biological and 1 physical), 2 years of the same foreign language (can be waived for those who show equivalent skills), 1 year of visual and performing arts (like art, dance, drama, or music), and 1 year of electives from approved subjects.
