BA in Interdisciplinary Studies at Florida A&M University

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Interdisciplinary Studies that lasts for four years. The tuition fee for this program is $17,725. To gain admission into the BA in Interdisciplinary Studies program at FAMU, students must provide proof of their English language skills. Accepted tests for this requirement include the IELTS and TOEFL.

In this degree program, students can pick their classes as long as they meet the general education requirements. They will also work with an advisor to choose one or two areas of focus and a minor.

The BS/BA Interdisciplinary Studies degree requires a total of 120 credit hours. Students will choose, with the help of their advisor, at least one main area of focus, which is 30 credit hours, and one minor, or they can choose two main areas of focus, which are 15 credit hours each, along with one minor.

12th Grade

Students must have completed high school and hold a secondary and post-secondary certificate. For spring admission, a minimum GPA of 2.85 is required, and for fall admission, a GPA of 3.0 is needed. This GPA is calculated on a 4.00 scale. Students should have completed specific high school courses: four years of English (with at least three involving significant writing), four years of Mathematics (starting from Algebra 1), three years of Natural Science (with at least two including lab work), three years of Social Science, two years of the same Foreign Language, and two elective units from English, Mathematics, Natural Science, Foreign Language, Humanities, or Social Science. Additionally, students must demonstrate computer literacy by taking a relevant course or proving their computer skills.

Application Process for Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University

Step One: Prepare Documents for Application

• Letters of Recommendation (LOR): Submit two letters of recommendation from teachers and/or counselors as part of your application.
• Essays: Write a 500-word essay as part of your application. For the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management (HIIM), include a typed autobiographical essay of at least 300-500 words addressing the following: What motivates you to enter the HIIM profession? What life or work experiences have led you to pursue a degree in HIIM? What are your career goals, and how will a bachelor’s degree in HIIM help you achieve those goals?
• CV: Submit a Professional Resume for the Bachelor of Architecture (BArch).

Step Two: Additional Documents Required

• Undergraduate Application: Submit an official or certified copy of all secondary and post-secondary records and/or examination results. All credentials from non-U.S. institutions must be evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation agency.
• College Credit Results: Submit all AICE, AP, IB, or CLEP results if you have earned college credit through these programs.
• English Proficiency: Submit official TOEFL and/or IELTS test scores if English is not your native language.
• Official GED Transcript: If applicable, include your official GED transcript.
• Standardized Test Scores: Submit official ACT [code: 0726] and/or Redesigned SAT [code: 5215] results if you are entering as a freshman or sophomore transfer student.
• Copy of Passport: Include a copy of your passport.
• International Student Financial Statement: Complete this form as part of your application.
• For B.Arch Applicants: Submit a Professional Statement and a satisfactory Portfolio Review Score.
