Applicants must have completed high school and obtained a secondary and post-secondary certificate. For the Core Academic Grade-Point Average (GPA) on a 4.00 scale, a minimum of 2.85 is required for spring admission and 3.0 for fall admission. First-year engineering students start as pre-engineering students until they meet certain requirements. They need an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and must achieve a grade of 'C-' or better in First-Year Engineering Laboratory, Calculus I, Calculus II, and General Physics I. For chemical or biomedical engineering majors, General Chemistry I replaces General Physics I for major declaration. Minimum high school course requirements include: four units of English (three must include significant writing), four units of Mathematics (Algebra 1 or higher), three units of Natural Science (at least two with lab work), three units of Social Science, two units of the same Foreign Language, and two elective units from English, Mathematics, Natural Science, Foreign Language, Humanities, or Social Science.
