Step One: Prepare Documents for Application

Letters of Recommendation (LOR)

MIT requires two letters of recommendation from teachers. Ideally, one should be from a math or science teacher, and the other from a humanities, social science, or language teacher, although this is not strictly necessary.

Essays

Applicants must write short essays on the following topics:

• Describe the world you come from. How has that world shaped your dreams and aspirations? (250 words)
• Pick what field of study at MIT appeals to you the most right now, and tell us more about why this field of study appeals to you. (100 words)
• Tell us about something you do simply for the pleasure of it. (200–250 words)
• Describe one way in which you have contributed to your community. (200–250 words)
• Share a significant challenge you’ve faced or something that didn’t go according to plan. How did you manage the situation? (200-250 words)

• Submit the Secondary School Report (SSR), including your high school transcript.
• Submit SAT or ACT scores.
• Submit an English Language Proficiency score.
• Submit the Self-reported Coursework Form.
• Submit the February Updates & Notes Form.

Step Four: Application Fees

The application fee is USD 75, which is approximately INR 6.32 Thousand. You can pay this fee using a credit card. MIT also offers an installment plan through Tuition Management Systems (TMS), allowing students to pay their bill in monthly, interest-free installments. There is an enrollment fee of $85 for the full academic year plan and $70 for the one-semester plan.
