Application Process for San Diego State University

Step One: Prepare Documents for Application

Letter of Recommendation (LOR)

One mandatory LOR is required for your application. You can submit up to two additional letters, but they are not required. Make sure the LOR is on the official letterhead of the organization where the referee works. The LOR should include the referee’s official title or rank. The referee must describe how long they have known you and in what capacity. Please include your first and last name along with your Red ID, if possible. The letter can be uploaded as a PDF file.

Step Two: Additional Documents Required

Official Transcripts: Do not send these documents to the department. All official documents should be sent to the SDSU Graduate Admissions office.

English Language Proficiency (ELP) Scores: You need to provide your ELP scores.

GRE Scores: GRE scores are optional.

Optional Essay: You can submit an optional essay to help us understand your experiences and achievements better. This essay can explain things like gaps in your employment, unusual academic issues, or other important achievements. You can also share any challenges or special life situations that may help us understand your journey. Please keep the essay to a maximum of 300 words. If you choose to write an essay, there will be a separate option in Interfolio to submit it.

Payment Methods: You can pay using a credit card or debit card.

A separate tuition payment plan is available for non-resident students (this applies to out-of-state and international students). When you enroll in the plan, an initial payment of your Basic Tuition for the term is due. The remaining amount will be divided into three payments each semester, plus service charges that total up to 10%.
