Step One: Prepare Documents for Application

Letters of Recommendation (LOR)

• Submit Two Letters of Reference: One reference must be from your current direct supervisor (or the best alternative) at work. The second LOR should come from someone else who has supervised your work.
• If you lack full-time work experience, consider a supervisor from a summer job, part-time position, or internship. Alternatively, you can choose someone who managed you in extracurricular, research, volunteer, or community activities.
• For the second recommendation, select someone who has supervised you in professional, community, or extracurricular experiences.

Include the following in your recommendation:

• How does the applicant's performance compare to others in similar roles? Provide specific examples of the applicant's strengths (up to 500 words).
• Describe an important piece of constructive feedback you have given the applicant, detailing the circumstances and the applicant's response (up to 500 words).
• (Optional) Is there anything else we should know? Please be concise.

Essays

Applicants must upload one document containing both essays. The combined word limit is 1,150 words, double-spaced.

• Essay A: What matters most to you, and why? (750 words) Reflect deeply and write from the heart about what is most important to you and why. Consider factors such as experiences or insights that have shaped your perspectives.
• Essay B: Why Stanford? (400 words) Describe your aspirations and how the Stanford GSB experience will help you achieve them. If applying to both the MBA and MSx programs, address your interest in both.

Include a one-page resume. Only submit a longer resume if you have more than 10 years of work experience.
