Step One: Prepare Documents for Application

Letters of Recommendation (LOR)

• Submit two letters of reference.
• One reference should be from your current direct supervisor at work. If unavailable, choose the next best alternative.
• Your second LOR should be from someone else who has supervised your work.
• If you lack full-time work experience, you may use a supervisor from summer, part-time, or internship positions. Alternatively, ask someone who managed you in extracurricular, research, volunteer, or community activities.
• The second recommendation can be from professional, community, or extracurricular experiences.

Include the following in your recommendations:

• How does the applicant’s performance compare to others in similar roles? Provide specific examples like principal strengths. (Up to 500 words)
• Describe the most important constructive feedback you have given the applicant and their response. (Up to 500 words)
• (Optional) Is there anything else we should know? Please be concise.

Essays

Applicants must upload one document with two essays. The combined word limit is 1,150 words and should be double-spaced.

• Essay A: What matters most to you, and why? (750 words)Reflect deeply and write from the heart about what matters most to you and why. Consider what makes this important and any people, insights, or experiences that have shaped your perspective.
• Essay B: Why Stanford? (400 words)Describe your aspirations and how Stanford GSB will help you achieve them. If applying to both MBA and MSx programs, address your interest in both.

Include a one-page resume. Only submit longer if you have more than 10 years of work experience.
