Step One: Prepare Documents for Application

Statement of Purpose (SOP)

Submit a Statement of Purpose with a maximum of 4,000 characters. This essay is important for art programs. The evaluation will consider content, style, grammar, and structure.

Students should write their essay in a word processing program and then copy and paste it into the provided space. In your SOP, describe your work beyond what is shown in your portfolio.

Share your past experiences, creative interests, and future goals as an artist or designer. Make sure your statement is clear and concise. Remember, the essay is limited to 4,000 characters.

Letter of Recommendation (LOR)

Submit a letter of recommendation from an academic teacher or school counselor.

Essays

Submit an admission essay (personal statement). This is a required part of the SUNY Supplemental Application or the Common Application. You can use the SUNY International Applicant Essay form and choose any topic for your autobiographical essay.
