Step One: Prepare Documents for Application

Statement of Purpose (SOP)

Submit a Statement of Purpose with a maximum of 4,000 characters. This essay is important for art programs. You should focus on content, style, grammar, and structure.

Students can write their essay in a word processing program and then copy and paste it into the application form.

In your SOP, describe things about your work that your portfolio does not show. Talk about your past experiences, creative interests, and future goals as an artist or designer. Make sure your statement is clear and concise.

Letter of Recommendation (LOR)

Submit a letter of recommendation from an academic teacher or school counselor.

Essays

Submit a personal statement as part of the SUNY Supplemental Application or the Common Application. You can use the SUNY International Applicant Essay form and choose any topic for your autobiographical essay.
