M.Engr in Biological Engineering at University of Idaho

Step One: Prepare Documents for Application

Statement of Purpose (SOP)

Applicants must submit a 1-2 page document. There are two main ways to write this personal statement:

• Chronological Approach: In this style, keep the childhood and school years to one paragraph unless something important happened that relates to your studies. Focus on your research interests and any past projects or experiences that inspired you to pursue graduate studies in your field. Avoid discussing previous schools or teachers unless something significant occurred that is not obvious to others.
• Thematic Approach: This method centers around one or two main ideas that connect to your research area or major interest.

Letters of Recommendation (LOR)

You need to provide three Letters of Recommendation. These letters can be uploaded by the recommenders directly into the application form. Each letter must be on official letterhead, include the recommender's personal contact details, a signature, and the current date. It is best to have academic references. A letter from an employer can be helpful if the job relates to your field of study, but otherwise, it may not be useful. Each LOR should be between 2/3 of a page and one full page.

Curriculum Vitae (CV)

A one to two-page CV or resume is needed, summarizing your qualifications, honors, education, and interests. Your resume should ideally include:
