Application Process for University of Idaho

Step 1: Prepare Documents for Application

Statement of Purpose (SOP)

A 1-2 page document is required. Applicants can choose from two approaches for writing their personal statement:

• Chronological: Use one paragraph to write about childhood and school years unless something special happened that relates to your studies. Discuss your research interests and any previous projects or experiences that sparked your interest in graduate studies. Avoid mentioning previous institutions or faculty unless something significant occurred that is not widely known.
• Thematic: Organize the statement around one or two main ideas related to your research field or major interest.

Letters of Recommendation (LOR)

Three letters of recommendation are required. These can be uploaded by the recommender in the application form. Letters should be on official letterhead, include personal contact information, a signature, and a current date. An academic reference is preferred. A letter from an employer is helpful if it relates to the field you are applying for. LORs should be between 2/3 of a page and one page long.

Curriculum Vitae (CV)

A 1-2 page CV or resume is required. This should summarize your qualifications, honors, education, and interests. It should include:
