Application Process for University of Massachusetts Boston

Step One: Prepare Documents for Application

• Letters of Recommendation (LOR): You need an academic recommendation letter from a school counselor or teacher.
• Essays: A personal essay is required. Choose one of the following topics and write about 500 words: Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or an ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you. Discuss issues of personal, local, national, or international concern and their importance to you. Indicate a person who has significantly influenced you, and describe that influence. Describe a character from fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (like art, music, science, etc.) that has influenced you, and explain that influence. Share an experience that shows what you would bring to the diversity of a college community or an encounter that highlighted the importance of diversity to you. Choose any other topic of your liking.

Step Two: Additional Documents Required

• Official high school record, leaving certificate, and/or graduation examination results or notarized copies.
• All documents in foreign languages must be translated by a certified professional.
• Proof of English language proficiency.
• SAT/ACT scores (if applicable).
• Submit the Certification of Finances Form, which shows your ability to pay for education and living expenses at UMass Boston.
• If you have sponsors, include a letter of support in English from them, accepting responsibility for your expenses during your studies.
• A current copy of your sponsor's bank statement must also be included.

• The university offers an installment plan to help students pay their tuition fees in easy monthly payments each semester.
