Step One: Prepare Your Application Documents

Gather the following documents to complete your application:

• Letters of Recommendation (LOR): One academic recommendation letter from a school counselor or teacher.
• Essays: You must write a personal essay of about 500 words. Choose one of the following topics: Reflect on a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or an ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you. Discuss personal, local, national, or international issues that matter to you. Identify a person who has significantly influenced you and describe that influence. Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (like art, music, or science) that has influenced you and explain how. Share an experience that shows what you would bring to the diversity of a college community or an encounter that highlights the importance of diversity to you. Choose a topic of your own choice.

Step Two: Additional Documents Required

Along with your application, you need to submit these additional documents:

• An official high school record, leaving certificate, and/or graduation examination results or their notarized copies.
• Translations of all documents in foreign languages by a certified professional.
• Proof of English language proficiency.
• SAT/ACT scores (if applicable).
• Certification of Finances Form to show your ability to pay for education and living expenses while studying at UMass Boston.
• A letter of support in English from your sponsor(s), unless you are using personal funds. This letter should confirm their responsibility for your expenses during your studies.
• A current copy of your sponsor's bank statement.
