Step 1: Prepare Documents for Application

You need to gather the following documents:

• Letters of Recommendation (LOR): You need an academic recommendation letter from a school counselor or teacher.
• Essays: Write a personal essay of about 500 words. Choose one of the following topics:
• Discuss a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or an ethical dilemma you faced and how it affected you.
• Talk about personal, local, national, or international issues that matter to you.
• Identify a person who has greatly influenced you and explain how.
• Describe a character from fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (like art, music, or science) that has influenced you and explain why.
• Share an experience that shows what you would bring to the diversity of a college community or an encounter that highlighted the importance of diversity for you.
• Choose any other topic of your liking.

Along with your main documents, you need to provide:

• An official high school record, leaving certificate, and/or graduation exam results or their notarized copies.
• All documents in foreign languages must be translated by a certified professional.
• Proof of English language proficiency.
• SAT/ACT scores (if applicable).
• Submit the Certification of Finances Form to show your ability to pay for education and living expenses while studying at UMass Boston.
• If you have sponsors, include a letter in English from them accepting responsibility for your expenses, along with their bank statement.
