The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has a welcoming community of students from many countries and different backgrounds. For the Class of 2028, MIT got more than 28,000 applications. But only around 1,300 students were accepted to study at the school. This means that with an acceptance rate of just 4.5%, getting into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is very hard.

For the Class of 2027, 5,889 students from around the world applied to study at MIT. Only 120 of these students were accepted, resulting in an acceptance rate of just 2% for international applicants.

During the 2022-23 academic year, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology had a total of 3,465 international students. Out of these, 513 were undergraduate students, while 2,952 were part of the graduate programs.

The largest groups of international students at MIT come from Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, and other regions.

Recently, the acceptance rate at MIT has dropped compared to previous years. For the Class of 2028, 2027, and 2026, the acceptance rates were 4.5%, 4.8%, and 3.9%, respectively. In contrast, the acceptance rate for the Class of 2024 was 7.2%.

The number of students applying to MIT has grown a lot in the last few years. For the Class of 2027, MIT received 26,914 applications, and only 1,291 students were accepted. For the Class of 2024, there were 20,075 applicants, and 1,457 of them were admitted.

Each year, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology welcomes international students through both Early Action and Regular Action. Typically, the acceptance rate for Early Action is higher than that for Regular Action. Early Action allows students to apply to the school sooner than Regular Action.

For the Class of 2028, MIT received 12,563 applications for Early Action. Out of these, around 661 students were accepted, giving an Early Action acceptance rate of 5.2%. The remaining applicants were moved to Regular Action.

For Regular Action, 15,669 candidates applied to MIT. Only 614 students were admitted, resulting in a Regular Action acceptance rate of about 3.8%.
