Step One: Prepare Documents for Application

Letters of Recommendation (LOR)

You need to submit two recommendation letters from academic or professional sources. Use SlideRoom to enter the contact details of your recommenders. They will get an automated email from SlideRoom with instructions on how to upload their letters.

Essays

Write a personal essay between 500 to 1,000 words about why you want to study architecture. Discuss how your motivation aligns with the strengths of our program, such as:

• Combining artistic, critical, and material approaches to architecture
• Exploring alternative models of fabrication and practice
• Investigating culture, media, and technology in relation to architecture
• Being part of a multidisciplinary art school in the lively San Francisco Bay Area

Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Your resume or CV is required. Include your education, work experience, and relevant activities, including community service. Make sure to submit it as a PDF document.

Step Two: Additional Documents Required

Unofficial College Transcripts

Provide your complete undergraduate academic history. If you have taken any graduate courses, include those transcripts too. For international students, transcripts must be in English or come with a certified English translation. You need to submit an unofficial transcript from the college where you earned or will earn your bachelor’s degree, along with unofficial transcripts from any other undergraduate coursework. These will be used for review purposes. After being admitted, you must send official, sealed transcripts showing your bachelor’s degree completion by August 1 of the fall semester you start at CCA.

Proof of English Proficiency (International Applicants Only)

International applicants must provide proof of their English language skills.

Portfolio

Your portfolio should show your architectural education and skills. Include examples of academic and professional work, as well as personal projects. Compile your portfolio into one PDF document that is no longer than 30 pages and no larger than 10 MB. You can also add links to relevant external materials such as videos or websites within the PDF.
