Overview

The University of Indianapolis is a private university affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, it was founded in 1902 as Indiana Central University and was known as Indiana Central College from 1921 to 1975. The name changed to the University of Indianapolis in 1986, and it is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The main campus covers about 65 acres and includes ten buildings for administration and classes, seven residence halls, Greyhound Village Apartments, University Lofts, and the president's home. Around 82% of freshmen and 52% of full-time undergraduate students live on campus.

The university offers over 100 undergraduate programs, more than 40 master's programs, and five doctoral programs. It has approximately 5,500 students, including around 1,400 graduate students. The student-to-faculty ratio is a favorable 13:1, allowing for close interactions between students and faculty. The university is organized into several colleges and schools, including the Shaheen College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Health Sciences, the School of Nursing, and others.

According to the National Survey of Student Engagement, the University ranks high in student and faculty interaction compared to other private schools in the Great Lakes area. The university has over 600 faculty members, both full-time and part-time. Its athletic teams compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) at the NCAA Division II level.

The University of Indianapolis has partnerships with two universities in Zhejiang Province, China. These partnerships allow for joint degree programs and include opportunities for student exchange, collaborative research, and enhanced study abroad programs.
