Overview

The University of Richmond (UR) is a well-known private university located in Richmond, Virginia. Established in 1830 by Virginia Baptists, it originally started as a manual labor school for men. Over the years, it has grown into a respected institution and moved to its current campus in 1914. In 1920, it officially became a university and adopted its current name. UR is part of several educational groups, including the Associated Colleges of the South and the Southeastern Universities Research Association.

UR boasts a stunning 350-acre campus situated just six miles from downtown Richmond. The campus includes modern academic buildings, athletic facilities, and recreational spaces. UR has five schools that provide undergraduate and graduate programs in various fields, such as arts, sciences, business, and law. Currently, there are approximately 4,002 students from 47 U.S. states and 62 countries. The university has a dedicated and experienced staff, and the student-to-teacher ratio is 8:1, with an average class size of 16. UR also supports a vibrant student life with 190 organizations focused on cultural activities, personal interests, and sports, including 17 varsity teams competing in the Atlantic-10 Conference.
