Overview

The University of Vermont, established in 1791, is known as the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College. It is a public research university located in Burlington, Vermont, making it one of the oldest universities in the United States. The university became co-educational in 1871 when it started admitting female students, leading to a significant increase in enrollment. Notably, the first radio broadcast in Vermont was made from the university's radio station, WCAX-TV, in 1924, originally operated by the student council.

The campus spans 450 acres and houses nine colleges, including the College of Business Studies, College of Engineering & Mathematical Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Social Sciences, Honors College, College of Nursing & Health Sciences, and College of Environment & Natural Resources. Dining options on campus include four dining halls: Simpson Fine Dining Hall, Northside Dining, Grundle Dining, and Central Campus Dining Hall.
